It is very easy to lose one’s head when being involved in a collision – what must be definitely kept in mind?

  1. It should be determined who the accident’s perpetrator and participants are. If no agreement can be reached, police should be called.
  2. Once it is determined who the perpetrator is, a statement should be written down. It will include the following information:
  • Who is the collision’s participant and who is the perpetrator, their full names and personal identification numbers. Optionally, addresses and ID numbers can also be included.
  • Car data, i.e.: brands, registration numbers and damages which have occurred in the injured party’s car as a result of the collision. The following should also be added when possible: “Other damages, not apparent at the moment of the accident, are also possible”.
  • The accident perpetrator’s insurance policy number together with full name of the insurer
  • It is worth preparing a description of the event, taking pictures of the damages and writing down the data of witnesses, if any
  • A legible signature of the perpetrator is necessary
  • The statement should be made in two identical copies
  • A ready statement template can be downloaded from insurers’ websites

In case of any lack of understanding, police should be called.
